Apple's First 2026 Mac: M5 Pro/Max MacBook Pro Officially Launched

According to reports, Apple’s first new product of 2026 launched on January 28—the new MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. This is Apple’s first major hardware update of the year.

M5 Pro/Max Chip Performance

Built on TSMC’s 3nm process, the M5 Pro and M5 Max deliver significant gains in GPU, CPU, and especially AI compute. Notebookcheck tests show the M5 Max achieving up to 47% higher frame rates than the M4 Max in games like Cyberpunk 2077, potentially rivaling some mobile discrete GPUs.

Apple Creator Suite

January 28 also marked the launch of Apple’s new Creator Suite service. The suite includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and other pro apps, targeting the same high-performance MacBook Pro user base. Releasing hardware and software together creates strong market synergy.

Product Strategy

The MacBook Pro has long been a creator’s go-to tool. A Creator Suite subscription paired with a new MacBook Pro is a natural fit.

Apple also held its earnings call on January 29. Releasing new products the day before allows the company to discuss performance and boost investor confidence.

Design Continuity

This update focuses on performance. Design, display (still Mini-LED), and ports are expected to carry over. Larger design changes—such as OLED and touch—may be reserved for the M6 models planned for late 2026 or 2027.
