Photo privacy checklist (2026)

Sharing a JPEG is easy; knowing what else travels with it is harder. This page is a field checklist for creators, support teams, and anyone posting home or workplace photos. It pairs with our local tools — we disclose that affiliation up front.

Disclosure: wordok.top builds browser-local image tools (EXIF Strip, Watermark, toolbox). This is hygiene guidance, not a compliance certification or legal opinion.

Layer 1 — Metadata (EXIF / GPS)

Many phone cameras store GPS, device model, and timestamps. That can reveal a neighborhood, travel pattern, or device fleet. Before posting: run EXIF Strip (Canvas re-encode, no upload) and spot-check with any EXIF viewer when stakes are high.

Layer 2 — Visible content

Metadata tools do not blur faces, badges, whiteboards, or notification banners. Ask: would I be OK if this pixel grid were searched and screenshotted? Crop aggressively; prefer text redaction for documents.

Layer 3 — Where pixels are processed

PatternRiskWhen OK
Local Canvas (wordok-class) Low upload risk IDs, medical-adjacent, home interiors
Upload-to-server converters Depends on vendor & retention Public stock-like images only
Unknown “free SEO tool” farms High Never for private media

Category scoring: Browser image tools 2026.

Layer 4 — Draft marks & ownership

Watermark drafts before sharing with contractors (Watermark). Tile mode resists casual crop-outs. How-to: 加水印教程.

Suggested workflow

  1. Shoot / export the smallest useful crop.
  2. Strip EXIF.
  3. Optional watermark for drafts.
  4. Compress to platform limits (target KB guide).
  5. Upload only to the destination you intend — not a chain of random converters.

FAQ

Does Canvas strip guarantee zero metadata?

It removes typical EXIF for common formats. Odd containers or side-car files need specialist review. Verify when compliance matters.

What about HEIC from iPhones?

Convert to JPEG/PNG/WEBP in a trusted local path first; then strip. Platform HEIC support varies.
